Tragedy Behind A Classic "All American" Beverage?
This site is designed to promote companies that are trying to make a difference, not necessarily to bash companies that aren’t. But every so often we will expose companies whose actions simply cannot go un-noticed.
Recent reports indicate that Coca Cola continues to work against the best interests of human rights, consumer health and the environment. In Colombia, workers at Coca-Cola bottling plants have had their safety compromised and some of them lost their lives for trying to form a union. Eight union organizers have been murdered by Colombian paramilitaries and at least 100 others have been detained and beaten. Yet Coca-Cola, the soft drink powerhouse has yet to investigate these claims. Coke is also a major player in the bottled water industry pumping high volumes of water from places with major water shortages like Kerela, India.
Coke has signed the United Nations Global Compact, which is intended to make companies more responsible corporate citizens, but actions speak louder than words and their actions continue to counteract sustainability and human rights.
Oh by the way, soda (or "pop" as we like to call it) has little to no nutritional value and has been linked to diabetes, obesity and many other serious medical conditions.
As always, we recommend you do your own research on both Coke and other companies to educate yourself so you can be confident in your purchases.
