Farms can also be certified as organic if they meet standards compliance, inspection, documentation. Annual inspections are often followed by impromtu inspections. They must use propper farming methods, feeding, fertilizing, etc.
Soil must also meet certain organic standards and not contain certain chemical substances for long periods of time.
We must make sure the government does not try and change or diminish the current level of organic certification. You can also keep an eye out for Certified Naturally Grown, this is a "non-profit alternative eco-labelling program for small farms that grow using USDA Organic methods but are not a part of the USDA Certified Organic program."
