Green Schools Reduce Energy Costs by up to 50%

Early studies are showing that children learn more, and maintain better health in "green" schools. Many schools are using nurseries and on site gardens to teach children in a hands on environment. So far only about 30 schools have received certification from the U.S. Green Building Council's school certification program. However, there are over 300 schools waiting to be reviewed and it looks like "green schools" are the wave of the future. If you are a parent you need to be involved and make sure your local politicians now that you want your children to have the opportunity to go to cleaner, healthier, socially responsible schools.

One of the first green schools was built in Oregon, but they are now popping up all over, including Atlanta, North Carolina, Chicago, Colorado, etc. The great thing is that it doesn't cost much more to build these awesome schools. In fact, there is absolutely no reason why any new school being built shouldn't be a green school.

Children are learning that we are losing our resources and it is their behaviors that have the potential to make a huge difference in the next 50-100 years.

Studies by school officials in Washington state found green schools lead to better student performance and less absences and behavioral problems.
