What is Fair Trade?
Human nature is an amazing thing. We are so trusting and sometimes so nieve. We trust that the clothes we buy were made by people that are treated fairly, we assume that the produce we buy was farmed by hard working laborers that are well compensated for the back breaking / sometimes dangerous work.
We all know what happens when you "assume"..... but in the case our assumptions are devistating. Many of the products you buy on a regular basis are from companies that mistreat their employees, abuse child labor laws, and will stop at nothing to earn a profit.
What is the solution? Fair Trade!
The Fair Trade Federation (FTF) is an association of fair trade wholesalers, retailers, and producers whose members are fully committed to providing fair wages and good employment opportunities to economically disadvantaged artisans and farmers worldwide.
The fair trade movement is spreading beyond farming, produce and foods. Here are some of the goods that you maybe able to find certified by the FTF.
1. Tea 2. Chocolate 3. Fresh Fruit 4. Sugar 5. Rice 6. Vanilla 7. Spices 8. Wine 9. Olive oil 10. Sports balls 11. Arts and crafts 12. Coffee
